The role of a Cloud Support Engineer II at AWS is dynamic and exciting. You will act as a critical point of contact for our customers, providing support to resolve technical issues, ensuring seamless cloud experiences. Your primary focus will be on networking, operating systems, security, and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities:
As a Cloud Support Engineer II, you’ll be responsible for:
Customer Support: Engaging with customers via various communication channels (telephone, email, web/live chat) to provide timely and effective technical assistance.
Advanced Troubleshooting: Utilizing your advanced troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of networking issues. This includes the use of tools like traceroute, ping, iperf, tcpdump, Wireshark, curl, nslookup/dig, and more.
Networking Expertise: Applying your knowledge of networking protocols, such as BGP, SSL/TLS, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, IPSEC, and related technologies to resolve customer issues.
Security Best Practices: Supporting customers in configuring secure network environments, including the use of Web Application Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems, and SSL/TLS troubleshooting.
Collaboration with Teams: Working with AWS teams on complex customer issues and providing insights into process improvements.
Customer Communication: Keeping customers informed during critical events and outages, ensuring a seamless experience.
Knowledge Sharing: Writing technical articles, tutorials, and how-to guides to assist the developer community.
Mentorship and Training: Sharing your expertise with new hires, mentoring junior engineers, and helping improve the team’s overall technical knowledge.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate should have:
Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field, with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in technical positions. Familiarity with cloud technologies and networking is essential.
System Administration Knowledge: Expert-level experience in Linux and/or Windows operating systems, with hands-on skills in troubleshooting operating systems.
Networking Knowledge: A strong understanding of networking layers (OSI Model) and experience troubleshooting networking protocols like BGP, IPSEC, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL/TLS, and related technologies.
Advanced Tools Proficiency: In-depth experience with troubleshooting tools like traceroute, mtr, ping, iperf, Wireshark, tcpdump, and curl.
Security Knowledge: A solid understanding of network security, including the configuration and management of firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems, and SSL/TLS encryption.
Communication Skills: Strong written and spoken English communication skills, enabling you to engage with customers and internal teams effectively.
Customer Support Mindset: Passion for solving customer issues and delivering exceptional service.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
While the above qualifications are essential, the following skills will make you an even stronger candidate:
Experience with Networking Devices: Familiarity with devices such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, and others.
VLAN and ARP Troubleshooting: Knowledge of configuring VLANs and troubleshooting ARP issues.
Routing Protocols: Practical experience with BGP and related routing protocols.
Load Balancing Solutions: Experience with software-based Load Balancing and related configurations.
Cloud Monitoring and Alerting: Experience with CloudWatch, Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, or similar tools for end-to-end application monitoring.
Distributed Computing: Familiarity with distributed computing environments and methodologies is a plus.

Work Schedule and Shifts:
Since AWS operates 24x7x365, this role requires flexibility to work night shifts. You’ll work a standard 5-day week with rotating schedules, which may include Sunday-Thursday, Tuesday-Saturday, or Monday-Friday shifts. Typical shift timings will be in the India night time, from 7 PM to 4 AM IST or 11 PM to 8 AM IST.
