Your Role and Responsibilities as a Storage Scale Test Engineer at IBM
In the role of Storage Scale Test Engineer, you will be directly involved in the design, development, and automation of test strategies related to IBM’s high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud storage services. This role will give you the chance to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IBM’s family of storage products, which include IBM Software-Defined Storage (SDS) portfolio and IBM Cloud Storage Services.
As an integral part of a global product team, you will drive key aspects of functionality, taking ownership of individual product features and collaborating with senior technical leaders to ensure the effective management of deliverables. Your technical expertise and hands-on experience will be critical to ensuring the success of IBM’s advanced storage solutions across various platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Test Automation Development & Implementation: Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement automated tests for various IBM storage products. This includes working on advanced testing frameworks and tools designed to ensure product reliability, scalability, and overall performance.
Designing Test Strategies: You will design comprehensive test strategies to support HPC and cloud storage solutions, ensuring that the various features within the IBM portfolio meet the highest standards for performance and reliability.
Driving Product Functionality as a Subject Matter Expert (SME): Represent IBM’s storage products across the global product teams. Your deep knowledge and expertise will position you as the go-to expert for critical product functionality, allowing you to collaborate effectively and influence product decisions.
Collaboration with Global Teams: You will work closely with global teams to ensure all test requirements are well defined and addressed. This collaboration will require clear and concise communication with various stakeholders, including clients and Level 3 support teams, to resolve any field issues that arise.
Supporting Integration and Defining Test Requirements: As part of the testing process, you will define detailed test requirements, execute test tasks, and ensure successful integration across systems and storage modules.
Debugging Complex Issues: You will have the opportunity to showcase your debugging skills, troubleshooting complex issues that span multiple modules and addressing issues with interdependencies.
Continuous Improvement: Working in an Agile environment, you will continuously iterate and improve testing practices to meet ever-evolving needs and technologies within the storage space.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Test Automation Expertise: You should have strong experience in test automation frameworks, test case strategy, and debugging. Familiarity with tools like Python, Shell scripting, Robot Framework, Go language, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, and CI/CD is crucial. Expertise in DevOps practices and REST API testing will also be highly advantageous.
Hands-on Experience in Storage Systems and Software: A deep understanding of file systems, storage systems software, and experience with virtualization/containerization techniques will be crucial in ensuring the quality and stability of IBM’s storage solutions.
Experience with Linux/Windows Operating Systems: Experience in both Linux and Windows operating systems is essential. Familiarity with basic Linux user-level administration will help you troubleshoot and support various product issues.
Collaboration Skills: Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with global teams, ensuring the timely resolution of issues, and meeting project deadlines. You should be able to manage and communicate complex technical tasks in a clear and concise manner.
