Position Overview
As a key member of Amazon’s regional Operations team, the Operations Manager in Packaging will focus on implementing high-impact packaging strategies that align with Amazon’s environmental and customer experience goals. This role combines technical acumen, strategic project management, and cross-functional leadership to improve packaging design, reduce material usage, and enhance the customer unboxing experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Define and Execute the Regional Packaging Roadmap
You will spearhead the development and execution of a long-term roadmap for sustainable packaging in the RoW (Rest of the World) regions. This includes identifying opportunities for packaging optimization, developing region-specific strategies, and aligning with global best practices.
2. Technical Leadership in Packaging Operations
Serve as the regional technical authority on packaging performance, materials specification, box suite optimization, and packing productivity. Your insights will directly contribute to improvements in packaging quality, cost-efficiency, and sustainability metrics.
3. Cross-Regional Collaboration
Work closely with Amazon teams worldwide to leverage best practices and successful innovations from other markets. Your collaborative efforts will ensure a consistent approach to packaging standards and deliver operational efficiencies.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
Act as a central point of contact for packaging improvement projects. Provide regular updates to stakeholders across Operations, Engineering, Finance, Category Management, Procurement, and Global Packaging teams. Facilitate consensus-building and negotiate changes effectively.
5. Continuous Improvement and Waste Reduction
Drive continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing packaging waste, minimizing damages during transportation, and enhancing the customer experience. Employ Lean techniques and data-driven decision-making to identify and implement improvements.
Basic Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years in employee and performance management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain, transportation logistics, or equivalent experience. Candidates with at least 2 years of FTE (blue badge) experience at Amazon are also eligible.
- Flexible availability, including the willingness to work weekends, nights, or holidays as needed.
- Strong background in performance metrics, process improvement, or Lean methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will strengthen a candidate’s application:
- At least 1 year of experience specifically focused on packaging optimization, sustainable design, or lean manufacturing in a packaging context.
- Advanced skills in data analytics, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
