Overview of the Role

As a Data Scientist Analyst within the AWM Risk team, you will help lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced analytical tools and risk measurement methodologies. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking group dedicated to optimizing and innovating J.P. Morgan’s Newton platform, a critical system used for managing risk and supporting front office decision-making across Asset and Wealth Management.

This role will allow you to collaborate with global teams and business stakeholders to scale up data-driven solutions that power risk insights, streamline operations, and enable smarter investment strategies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and drive data science use cases: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand analytical needs and design machine learning or statistical models that address risk management challenges in security and portfolio analysis.
  • Advance AI/ML capabilities: Champion continuous improvement of applied AI/ML techniques in validation, model performance, and real-time risk assessment.
  • Build scalable solutions: Utilize firm-approved tools such as AI platforms and large language models (LLMs) to create modular, reusable, and scalable analytics solutions.
  • Enhance data architecture: Participate in onboarding and analysis of large-scale datasets using big data frameworks, adhering to best practice modeling standards.
  • Refine risk methodologies: Contribute to the development and enhancement of quantitative methodologies covering stress testing, value-at-risk (VaR), sensitivity analysis, liquidity risk, counterparty risk, and Lending Value pricing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with technologists, quantitative researchers, and risk professionals to ensure that solutions are both technically sound and business-aligned.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must bring a blend of technical proficiency, risk awareness, and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • At least 6 months of experience in a data science or quantitative analyst role, preferably in a finance or risk-related setting.
  • Strong grasp of statistical techniques and AI/ML tools with a practical approach to solving business problems.
  • Hands-on programming experience with SQL, Python, and ML platforms such as AWS Sagemaker, TensorFlow, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex models and data-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives in a dynamic, results-driven environment.
  • Strong individual contributor with an entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative approach.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Prior experience in financial markets or within a risk, compliance, or quantitative research function.
  • Familiarity with VaR methodologies, asset pricing models, risk factor modeling, or backtesting techniques.
  • Working knowledge of AWM risk systems or front office analytics tools is a plus.
