🔍 About the Role – Cloud Engineer at IBM
As a Cloud Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative team responsible for enabling, deploying, and maintaining IBM Cloud® Pak solutions on the Linux on Z (s390x) platform. This includes solutions across AI operations, integration, data, and automation domains.
You’ll work in close collaboration with product managers, sales teams, engineers, and support teams to help solve complex client challenges involving architecture, deployment, performance, and scalability in hybrid cloud environments.
This role is perfect for early-career technologists who are passionate about cloud infrastructure, open-source tools, and enterprise DevOps.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
As a Cloud Engineer at IBM, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Deploying Cloud Paks on Kubernetes (preferably OpenShift) for enterprise-scale systems on Z/LinuxONE infrastructure
Managing customer projects and deployments across hybrid cloud environments (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS)
Troubleshooting implementation issues, performance bottlenecks, and architecture-related challenges
Working with tools like Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions to automate deployment and testing workflows
Collaborating cross-functionally to create enablement content, product demos, Proof of Concepts (PoCs), and technical training sessions
Implementing observability and monitoring using leading observability tools and frameworks
Applying best practices in cloud security, microservices architecture, networking, and virtualization
Supporting Linux package porting, REST API integrations, and building containerized services
🎓 Educational Qualifications
Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline
Preferred: Master’s Degree in a relevant technical field is a plus
✅ Technical Skills & Expertise Required
IBM is looking for entry-level candidates who demonstrate a strong foundation in the following:
Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or Java
Experience with containerization tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and virtualization management
Understanding of DevOps tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Travis CI, and Selenium for automated deployment pipelines
Working knowledge of REST APIs, Catalog Services, Microservices architecture
Familiarity with Linux OS, Linux package porting, and system-level scripting
Understanding of cloud-native development and infrastructure provisioning with tools like Terraform and Ansible
Good grasp of cloud security best practices, networking protocols, and hybrid cloud integration
🌟 Preferred Technical Experience (Nice to Have)
Prior exposure to Z Systems (IBM Z, LinuxONE) and enterprise mainframe platforms
Experience with observability tools, monitoring dashboards, and log analysis platforms
Exposure to machine learning libraries or AI model integration into cloud-native applications
Contribution to open-source cloud or DevOps projects is a plus
