About Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) at SAP
The Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) unit of Customer Services and Delivery (CS&D) operates and manages SAP‘s private cloud solutions. This encompasses isolated private cloud environments, developed both in SAP-held data centers and on prominent Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers like Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Our services are provided in global regions (EME, AME, and APJ), promoting an international orientation with multicultural interactions.
Role Description: Chief Database Architect
You will be a key contributor to supporting and maintaining database services in the ECS Delivery Technical Operations organization. Your duties will include database administration, strategy formulation, and technical direction, ensuring SAP‘s databases operate efficiently and securely.
This role presents a great chance to head a Center of Excellence (CoE) team of database administrators, experts, and architects. You will be working on advanced database service deliveries, mainly SAP HANA, ASE, and other database technologies.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop innovative database projects and introduce database enhancements to improve customer experience.
• Lead re-architecture of infrastructure and embrace new technologies to improve performance.
• Establish a technical database roadmap in alignment with SAP‘s long-term strategic vision.
• Simplify database management processes to improve operational efficiency.
• Drive cost optimization and operational excellence through relentless innovations.
• Create and roll out new database services to augment customer offerings.
• Serve as a technical advisor to database teams, offer technical support, and resolve escalations and critical issues.
• Serve as a single point of contact (SPOC) for database-related conversations with CAE Architecture and Data Management teams.
• Lead agile-based project delivery, adopting Scrum methodology.
• Work with product management and development teams to solve operational issues.
• Exchange technical expertise and best practices with teams to ensure ongoing learning.
• Enhance migration processes, minimizing cutover time and maximizing standardization.
• Oversee intricate, non-standard database requirements, developing comprehensive execution plans.
• Participate in on-call duty, Manager on Duty (MOD), and weekend tasks, as required.

What You Bring: Required Skills & Expertise
Database & Architecture Expertise
• Theaté experience with RDBMS products including SAP HANA, ASE, and DB2.
• Thorough understanding of database architecture, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Ability to work with database automation tools, scripting, and process improvement.
• Solid background in database operations such as incident and problem management.
• Practical experience in high-availability configurations (HSR), backup and restore, and database upgrades.
• Understanding of table distribution, partitioning, and database clustering.
• Good understanding of database security concepts.
• Deep database troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.
Leadership & Project Management
• 17+ years of customer experience and operations experience.
• Good understanding of service delivery processes and process enhancements.
• Ability to guide and lead teams in high-pressure database scenarios.
• Good communication, influencing, and negotiation skills at all levels.
• Strategic thinking with a continuous learning and business acumen mindset.
• Project management skills; PMP and ITIL certifications desirable.
• Knowledge-sharing experience, development of best practice guides, and technical process documentation.
Cloud & Certification Requirements
• Public cloud domain experience such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Professional database platform certification is desirable.
• On-premise and cloud-based SAP solution knowledge.
• SAP C_HANATEC certification or equivalent is desirable.
• Experience with cluster architectures and database migration plans.
