Position: Senior Product Assurance Engineer

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Senior Product Assurance Engineer who will be responsible for overseeing the assurance and testing processes related to PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and DCS (Distributed Control Systems) products. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in manual and automated testing within the control and safety system environment.
Education Requirement:
M.E. / B.E. in Electronics, Electrical, Communication, or Instrumentation engineering.
Experience Required:
6-9+ years of relevant industry experience, particularly in product assurance, testing, and verification in the PLC/DCS systems domain.
Key Skills Required:
Hands-on Experience in PLC/DCS Testing Systems:
The candidate should have extensive hands-on experience working with PLC/DCS systems, including both manual and automated testing, and scripting. Familiarity with Foxboro, Honeywell, ABB, Yokogawa DCS systems, or Triconex, HIMA, FSC, Modicon PLC is highly desired. The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of the design, configuration, and troubleshooting of control systems, ensuring the functionality and reliability of these systems.
Control/Safety Systems Functional and System Testing:
The candidate should have a strong background in control and safety systems testing, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), installation, and commissioning of PLC/DCS systems. Proficiency in performing system testing, analyzing results, and preparing necessary documentation will be key responsibilities for this role.
Verification/Validation of Real-Time Embedded Systems:
Exposure to verification and validation of multi-processor real-time embedded systems or high-integrity systems is crucial. The candidate should be well-versed in testing communication protocols like Serial IO, Modbus, TCP/IP, and OPC, particularly for safety-critical systems.
Formal Development Methodologies:
Experience with formal development methodologies, including configuration management, requirements traceability, and formal or semi-formal methods, is essential. The candidate should have hands-on experience in unit, functional, and system testing, contributing to high-quality product assurance processes.
Strong Communication and Presentation Skills:
The candidate should possess excellent communication and presentation skills, as they will be responsible for communicating findings, test results, and project status reports to internal and external stakeholders. The ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences will be highly valued.
Secondary Skills (Nice-to-Have):
Experience with Redundant Systems:
Knowledge of redundant systems such as 2oo2 (two out of two) or 2oo3 (two out of three) configurations will be beneficial. Familiarity with CENELEC, IEC, ISO, IEEE, or CMM standards is also a plus.
Certifications (CSQA/CSQE/CRP):
Candidates with certifications such as CSQA (Certified Software Quality Analyst), CSQE (Certified Software Quality Engineer), or CRP (Certified Requirements Professional) will have an edge over others.
Experience with Requirements Engineering and Configuration Management:
Exposure to requirements engineering processes, configuration management, and automated testing/coding enforcement tools is desirable. The ability to work with various tools to streamline the testing and validation processes is an added advantage.
Exposure to Safety Standards like IEC 61508:
Familiarity with safety standards, specifically IEC 61508, which relates to functional safety of electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic systems, will be highly beneficial in this role.
