Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
Design and Engineering Support:
Preparation of design criteria for controls and instrumentation.
Performing calculations for control valves, flow elements, and thermowells sizing.
Preparation of instrumentation specifications for mechanical packages and vendor print review.
Review and development of specifications for analyzer systems, fiscal metering, and machine monitoring systems.
Safety and Functional Safety:
Preparation of Functional Safety Management Plans and Safety Requirement Specifications.
Participate in and review Safety Integrity Level (SIL) studies, LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) reviews, and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies.
Technical Documentation and Coordination:
Development of I/O data databases for DCS (Distributed Control System), SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), F&G (Fire & Gas), and mechanical vendor packages.
Preparation of technical specifications, data sheets, technical bid analysis (TBA), and analysis of supplier offers for instruments such as transmitters, temperature elements, and flow meters.
Development of detailed engineering drawings, including wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and cable block diagrams.
Preparation of instrument installation details and material take-offs.
Project Support and Collaboration:
Coordinates assigned work with other technical personnel as directed, contributing to cross-discipline project teams.
Participates in 3D model review sessions and ensures the integration of control systems in the overall project model.
Works closely with designers to assist in modeling instruments, junction boxes, and allocation of remote I/O’s.
Engineering Software and Tools:
Use of engineering software tools like Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), Smart Plant, and Flowel for preparation of designs and system specifications.
Conducting functional reviews of designs and specifications to ensure compliance with project and regulatory standards.
Team Leadership and Development:
Provide technical direction to junior engineers, drafters, technicians, and GETs (Graduate Engineering Trainees), helping them develop their technical skills and understanding of complex engineering tasks.
Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative work environment based on trust, communication, and empowerment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must possess a combination of technical expertise and experience in control systems and instrumentation, particularly in the context of industries like oil and gas, mining, and metals. Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering or a related field from a recognized university.
Experience:
For Level 1: 12-16 years of industry experience in the engineering and design of control systems.
For Level 2: 16+ years of industry experience, particularly in FEED (Front End Engineering Design) and engineering in oil and gas, semiconductor, or mining & metal projects.
Certifications:
TUV/Exida Certified Functional Safety Professional.
Certified Cyber Security Professional (preferred).
Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of control system engineering, including DCS, PLC, and SCADA networks.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory codes relevant to control systems and instrumentation.
Experience with hazard analysis tools such as HAZOP, SIL, and LOPA.
Proficiency in Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) and other engineering design tools.
Knowledge of various types of field instrumentation, including transmitters, temperature elements, and flow meters.
Communication and Collaboration Skills:
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate effectively with different engineering disciplines and project teams.
Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers and provide constructive feedback.
Preferred Knowledge:
Experience in the design and application of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety systems.
Knowledge of advanced control systems, cyber security in industrial systems, and integration of automation systems.
Awareness of fiber optics, CAT 6, and other network infrastructure used in control systems.
