Role Overview

As the AWS DevOps SME, you will play a critical leadership role in steering a major enterprise-level migration from on-premises infrastructure to the AWS Cloud. You will architect, design, and implement scalable cloud-native solutions, ensuring operational excellence, security compliance, and cost-efficiency.

This is not merely a technical role—it is a strategic, consultative position requiring deep subject matter expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to mentor teams on best practices in DevOps and cloud operations.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Cloud Migration Strategy & Execution

Lead the transition from on-premise infrastructure to AWS Cloud, serving as the key Subject Matter Expert in AWS DevOps throughout the migration journey.Design and execute secure, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure.
Assess existing on-prem environments and propose cloud-native architecture solutions tailored to business goals.

✅ CI/CD Pipeline Automation

Architect and deploy Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using GitHub Actions.
Ensure seamless integration with GitHub repositories for automated testing and deployment workflows.
Implement failover strategies, blue-green deployments, and rollback plans to maintain business continuity.

✅ Containerization & Orchestration

Lead the end-to-end strategy for containerization and orchestration using:
- Amazon EKS (Kubernetes)
- Amazon ECS on both Fargate and EC2
Define container lifecycle management, scaling policies, and high-availability practices.

✅ Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

Develop modular and reusable Terraform scripts for provisioning AWS infrastructure.
Maintain code versioning, automated testing of IaC modules, and CI integration for infrastructure updates.
Utilize GitOps methodologies to orchestrate infrastructure deployments by leveraging version-controlled repositories.

✅ AWS Service Configuration & Optimization

Configure and manage Amazon S3 buckets, lifecycle policies, data versioning, and access permissions.
Leverage AWS Secrets Manager to securely manage and retrieve confidential configuration details and authentication credentials.
Optimize compute, storage, and network resources to ensure performance and cost-effectiveness.

✅ Security & Compliance

Enforce AWS best practices in Identity and Access Management (IAM), VPC configuration, and encryption policies.
Work closely with compliance teams to align infrastructure with industry standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC2.
Perform regular audits, implement encryption in transit/at rest, and restrict unnecessary access via IAM policies.

✅ Monitoring, Logging & Performance Tuning

Implement centralized logging and alerting using Amazon CloudWatch, Prometheus, or equivalent tools.
Set up health checks, threshold alerts, and auto-remediation workflows.
Conduct performance benchmarking, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource usage to ensure reliability.

✅ Troubleshooting & Support

Provide expert-level troubleshooting support for deployment failures, networking issues, and latency concerns in hybrid and cloud-native environments.
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) sessions and post-mortem reporting for system outages.

✅ Technical Documentation & Mentorship

Document standard operating procedures, architecture blueprints, and infrastructure runbooks.
Provide technical mentoring and training to DevOps engineers, junior SREs, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Conduct workshops or knowledge-transfer sessions to enhance DevOps maturity across the organization.

Desired Candidate Profile

✅ Technical Expertise

Deep knowledge of AWS core services, CI/CD tools, container orchestration, and infrastructure automation.
Hands-on experience in enterprise-grade cloud migration projects.
Proven expertise in implementing solutions using GitHub Actions, Terraform, Amazon EKS, ECS, and enforcing robust AWS security practices.

✅ Required Experience

Over 10 years of IT experience with at least 5 years in AWS DevOps or Cloud Infrastructure roles.
Prior experience leading large-scale, complex migration initiatives from on-premises to public cloud.

✅ Preferred Certifications

AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent

✅ Educational Qualifications

A Bachelor’s or Master’s qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field of engineering is required.
