Key Responsibilities:
1. Preliminary Engineering Solutions:
- Develop and recommend initial engineering solutions tailored to site-specific conditions and project needs.
- Formulate preliminary designs for a wide range of structures, including foundations, embankments, open-cut slopes, retaining walls, reinforced earth (RE) structures, and underground excavation support systems.
2. Execution Methodologies:
- Define comprehensive execution methodologies for geotechnical works.
- Optimize construction strategies by aligning them with technical specifications and site requirements.
3. Quantity Estimation:
- Estimate the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) during the tendering phase, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
- Perform meticulous quantity assessments to support budgeting and procurement processes.
4. Technical Documentation:
- Prepare technical documents outlining investigation requirements essential for detailed design development.
- Draft technical specifications for material procurement.
- Develop comprehensive reports such as Geological and Geotechnical Investigation Reports (GIR), Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBR), and Design Basis Reports.
5. Field Investigations:
- Oversee and conduct field mapping activities, geological site investigations, and topographical surveying operations.
- Interpret collected field data to support strategic design decisions and streamline project planning processes.
6. Advanced Design and Engineering:
- Engage in detailed design and engineering for complex structures including foundations, embankments, slopes, retaining walls, and RE structures.
- Execute geotechnical analysis and design for expansive underground facilities such as Powerhouses, Transformer/GIS Caverns, Desilting Chambers, and Surge Chambers.
- Design and analyze permanent and temporary tunnels and shafts, including Head Race Tunnels (HRT), Tail Race Tunnels (TRT), Pressure Shafts, Surge Shafts, Adits, and Tunnel Plugs.
- Conduct geo-mechanical and geotechnical design for tunnels constructed using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM).
- Focus on the structural interface and geotechnical stability.
7. Specialized Design for Dams and Foundations:
- Deliver geotechnical solutions for dams, foundational systems, and associated structural components.
- Devise foundation treatment measures, body drainage systems, and abutment slope stabilization strategies.
- Evaluate and design for the stability and support of excavation in challenging geological conditions.
8. Instrumentation and Monitoring:
- Design and implement instrumentation and monitoring strategies for dams, embankments, open-cut slopes, and underground structures.
- Ensure real-time data collection and interpretation to maintain structural integrity and safety.
9. Seismic Studies and Simulations:
- Perform detailed seismic design studies and liquefaction simulations to ensure compliance with seismic standards.
- Integrate seismic considerations into geotechnical designs to enhance resilience.
10. Design Analysis and Optimization:
- Conduct design analysis and perform calculations using Finite Element Method (FEM) in 2D/3D and Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) software.
- Optimize designs to enhance performance, safety, and cost-efficiency of geotechnical components.
11. Documentation and Codal Compliance:
- Prepare technical documents referencing design basis memorandums, codal provisions, geotechnical interpretation reports, and in-situ test results.
- Ensure all designs adhere to national and international standards.
12. Drawing Review and Constructability Analysis:
- Examine and validate design drawings received from consultants and clients for technical accuracy.
- Evaluate the constructability of designs based on site conditions.
- Develop construction methodologies aligned with detailed drawings and technical specifications.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in geotechnical engineering principles and practices.
- Strong command of geotechnical software such as PLAXIS 2D/3D, GeoStudio, FLAC, and other FEM/LEM tools.
- In-depth knowledge and practical experience in geological mapping, soil behavior analysis, and rock mechanics.
- In-depth understanding of seismic analysis and liquefaction studies.
- Excellent technical writing skills for preparing reports and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to efficiently handle multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Master’s Degree (MTech) in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline from a reputed institution.
- 5-7 years of hands-on experience in geotechnical design and engineering.
- Prior exposure to heavy civil infrastructure projects will be highly advantageous.
