About the Role
Amazon is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Business Intelligence Engineer I (BIE I) to join its Global Operations – Artificial Intelligence (GO-AI) team. This is an opportunity to be part of one of Amazon’s fastest-growing, most technologically advanced operations groups. The GO-AI team complements vision-based AI systems by providing human support for complex tasks across automated fulfillment centers globally.
As a BIE I, you will work with large datasets to drive data-backed business decisions and build solutions that scale operational processes. The role offers a unique opportunity to impact high-priority machine vision projects like Nike IDS, Proteus, Sparrow, and more.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Build and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using industry best practices.
- Develop and own BI solutions such as dashboards, reports, data models, and analyses to support business decisions.
- Use tools like Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, PowerBI to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Apply statistical methods such as t-tests, chi-squared tests, and regressions to interpret trends and patterns.
- Maintain high accuracy in all deliverables and ensure timely delivery of analytics assets.
Business Intelligence Development
- Design solutions that answer business questions with data.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of data lineage—knowing where data originates, how it’s transformed, and how it’s consumed.
- Create stable, secure, and reusable data solutions for multiple operational teams.
Code & Automation
- Write and maintain production-ready, scalable code using Python, Java, or R.
- Automate manual workflows and standardize repeatable processes.
- Build backend support to improve speed, accuracy, and cost-efficiency of BI tools.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with global stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver BI tools aligned with business goals.
- Work with peer BIEs, operations teams, and program managers to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and optimize processes.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies through data-driven decisions.
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Ensure all code, queries, and reports are reviewed, tested, and documented.
- Keep documentation up to date to enable team-wide understanding and onboarding.
- Track metrics and performance indicators to assess and enhance data products.
About the GO-AI Team
The Global Operations – Artificial Intelligence (GO-AI) team handles exception management within Amazon’s Robotic Fulfillment Centers. GO-AI augments machine vision with human judgment to resolve issues requiring cognitive reasoning beyond automation. The team delivers at Amazon scale by integrating operations and central programs to support high-complexity projects in real time.
Programs managed by the GO-AI team include:
- Nike IDS – Intelligent Decision Support for robotics.
- Proteus – Autonomous mobility assistance.
- Sparrow – Machine vision integration for item sorting.
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting large datasets using tools like Redshift, Oracle, or NoSQL systems.
- Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines and automated reporting processes.
- Hands-on expertise with BI tools like Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, PowerBI, or MicroStrategy.
- Ability to apply basic statistical techniques such as t-tests, chi-squared analysis, and regressions.
- Proficient in one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python, Java, or R.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or advanced technical qualification.
- Experience in statistical and correlation analysis.
- Proficiency in improving BI code quality and optimizing processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex analytics to non-technical teams.
