As a Roku Developer at Cognizant, you will play a vital role in designing, implementing, and optimizing applications that deliver seamless video playback experiences to millions of users. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to tackle complex streaming challenges and create innovative solutions that elevate the user experience on Roku devices.
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Roku Developer with 3+ years of software development experience, particularly in BrightScript and the Roku SDK. You should be proficient in video playback technologies, have familiarity with agile methodologies, and demonstrate strong debugging and architecture skills within the Roku environment.
This role requires collaboration, critical thinking, and the ability to contribute to SDK enhancements, performance tuning, and playback optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Roku applications and components within the Roku Player SDK.
- Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineering teams to enhance video playback experiences on Roku.
- Build applications using BrightScript and the Roku SceneGraph framework.
- Optimize streaming performance, ensuring low latency, smooth playback, and high visual quality.
- Debug and resolve moderately complex issues in BrightScript and across Roku-specific features.
- Utilize Splunk, CI/CD pipelines, and source control systems to manage the development lifecycle.
- Perform unit and integration testing with Roku-specific tools and standards.
- Ensure best practices for performance, security, scalability, and maintainability in Roku apps.
- Assist in periodic on-call support for critical, customer-facing issues.
- Mentor junior developers in Roku development and BrightScript best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in software development with a significant focus on Roku development.
- Proficiency in BrightScript, the Roku SDK, and Roku Media Player.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to discuss and address Roku-specific challenges.
- Demonstrated experience in moderately complex Roku applications, focusing on scalability and performance.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of video streaming protocols such as HLS and DASH.
- Experience with DRM technologies like PlayReady on Roku.
- Hands-on experience with Roku SceneGraph UI development.
- Familiarity with video analytics, telemetry integration, and Roku deployment processes.
- Exposure to Roku channel certification workflows and publishing standards.
