Position Overview

L&T Energy – Hydrocarbon invites applications for the role of Civil Estimation Engineer to join our dynamic team at Knowledge City, Vadodara. This opportunity is ideal for experienced professionals with a strong background in civil project estimation, construction engineering, and cost analysis. The selected candidate will be responsible for handling the estimation and costing of large-scale civil and infrastructure projects within the hydrocarbon sector.

We seek a detail-oriented engineer who possesses a keen understanding of tender documents, cost benchmarking, and subcontractor management. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated expertise in resource estimation, quantity take-offs, and construction risk assessment, contributing directly to proposal development and project planning.


Key Responsibilities

1. Tender Document Review and Technical Scope Analysis

  • Thoroughly evaluate and interpret tender documents to understand the technical scope of work.
  • Identify scope gaps, ambiguities, and potential execution risks during the proposal stage.

2. Coordination with Engineering Teams

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering departments for preparing Material Take-Offs (MTOs), Bill of Quantities (BOQs), and Material Requisitions (MRs).
  • Ensure engineering inputs are aligned with commercial and execution strategies.

3. Quantity Analysis and Work Breakdown

  • Prepare detailed analyses of work quantities based on engineering drawings and tender specifications.
  • Present estimation breakdowns and cost allocation summaries to proposal leadership for review and approval.

4. Site Visits and Execution Insights

  • Participate in site reconnaissance visits to gather insights into site conditions, constraints, logistics, and execution risks.
  • Incorporate real-time site data into cost estimates and proposal planning.

5. First Principle Cost Estimation

  • Develop cost estimates based on first principles, including manpower, material, equipment, and productivity factors.
  • Generate comprehensive cost models backed by empirical data and historical benchmarks.

6. Subcontractor RFQs and Cost Comparison

  • Prepare and float Request for Quotations (RFQs) to subcontractors for various civil and building work packages.
  • Conduct commercial evaluations of bids, including cost comparison, negotiation, and clarification rounds.

7. Subcontractor Cost Finalization

  • Benchmark subcontractor prices against historical data and market rates.
  • Lead price negotiations, hold clarification meetings, and finalize subcontracting costs in line with budget expectations.

8. Multi-Departmental Collaboration

  • Liaise with internal departments including procurement, planning, legal, and finance to obtain technical and commercial inputs.
  • Ensure seamless integration of cross-functional inputs into final proposal documentation.

9. Constructability and Execution Feasibility Reviews

  • Contribute actively to constructability reviews to assess design intent, site feasibility, and execution methodologies.
  • Recommend value engineering solutions to improve constructability and cost-effectiveness.

10. Risk Identification and Mitigation Planning

  • Identify and assess project risks such as complex technical issues, scope modifications, cost escalations, and delays in implementation.
  • Propose mitigation strategies and contingency planning measures.

11. Time Schedule Analysis and Planning Support

  • Support planning teams in developing project schedules based on estimated durations and resource availability.
  • Provide cost-loaded schedules and work package definitions.

12. Compilation and Cost Summary Documentation

  • Compile discipline-level cost summaries, including material, manpower, and equipment costs.
  • Submit cost documentation for internal and client reviews.

13. Cost Benchmarking and Comparative Analysis

  • Perform cost benchmarking by comparing new estimates with similar executed projects.
  • Highlight cost variances, trends, and optimization opportunities.

14. Project Cost Database Maintenance

  • Maintain and regularly update a central repository of cost data, including historical estimates, actuals, and market intelligence.
  • Utilize the database for future estimates and strategic pricing decisions.

Candidate Profile

Educational Background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BTech) from a recognized institution.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience in civil estimation within the infrastructure, hydrocarbon, or construction industries.

Location Details
