About the Role: Health & Safety Officer (WHS) – UAE AMZL
As a Workplace Health and Safety Officer at Amazon, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees across delivery stations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This critical role supports Amazon’s ever-growing logistics network and aims to foster a safe working environment through strategic safety planning, effective implementation of WHS policies, and collaborative efforts with operations teams.
You will report directly to the Country WHS Manager and take the lead in safety audits, risk assessments, training programs, incident investigations, and compliance checks. Key Responsibilities
As a WHS Officer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting comprehensive site risk assessments for ongoing and new activities to identify hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
- Developing and managing a WHS training matrix to ensure all staff receive essential safety training tailored to their roles.
- Driving the execution of WHS programs and ensuring the implementation of site-specific safety standards and operational guidelines.
- Leading daily and weekly WHS audits, including GEMBA walks, driver inspections, and vehicle checks to identify and address non-compliance.
- Promoting a strong safety culture by incorporating WHS discussions into daily briefings and shift meetings.
- Investigating workplace incidents and occupational injuries, providing assistance to area managers in documenting events using tools such as Gensuite.
- Overseeing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), auditing WHS record-keeping, and ensuring alignment with global standards and local regulations.
- Managing PPE inventory, coordinating with procurement teams for replenishment, and ensuring employees have access to necessary safety gear.
- Coordinating and tracking firefighting and first-aid training for staff to ensure emergency preparedness.
- Performing Trailer Dock Release (TDR) inspections and participating in daily monitoring via the Action Tracking System (ATS).
- Supporting permit-to-work procedures and working closely with facility and operations teams to ensure safe execution of tasks.
- Organizing WHS committee meetings, preparing agendas and minutes of meetings (MOMs), and following up on actionable items.
- Leading WHS-related procurement efforts and supporting ad-hoc site safety requirements and unplanned activities.
- Planning and executing emergency response drills, including medi-evacuation procedures and preparing all necessary documentation.
- Monitoring environmental conditions, including Heat Index levels, and advising on necessary precautions.
- Providing regular updates to the Country WHS Manager on incidents, objectives, audit outcomes, and overall safety performance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Amazon is looking for a proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate should bring both technical expertise and leadership capabilities in workplace health and safety.
Basic Qualifications:
- Possession of a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent WHS qualification.
- Proven experience in the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) field, ideally within logistics, e-commerce, or industrial operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Must have a valid UAE driving license and access to personal transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated with a passion for continuous personal and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience in incident investigation, job hazard analysis, and data interpretation related to workplace safety.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with digital tools such as Gensuite, ATS, and strong computer literacy for data reporting and analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Experience in facilitating emergency response drills and training sessions.
