About the Role: Software Engineer II
In this position, you‘ll be part of an increased investment in Microsoft‘s Identity and Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) technologies. You will have the chance to design, build, and optimize robust cybersecurity solutions that identify and protect against identity-based threats in real-time.
This is a full-stack engineering role, which provides you with the opportunity to drive everything from backend services and infrastructure to frontend UI and security algorithms. You‘ll collaborate closely with product managers, security researchers, and customers to help Microsoft develop intelligent, high-performance solutions that really matter.
Key Responsibilities
• End-to-End Feature Development: You will have the entire lifecycle of features—code that executes on endpoint sensors, robust detection logic in the cloud, and right down to interactive user interfaces.
• Advanced Threat Detection Engineering: Assist in augmenting our threat detection capabilities by integrating signals from first-party and third-party identity providers like Okta, Ping Identity, PAM, and PIM systems.
• Improvement of Drive System: Apply a critical perspective to our current codebase, infrastructure, and development processes. Anticipate and incorporate enhancements proactively.
• Innovation through Collaboration: Work with worldwide teams of engineers, security professionals, and stakeholders to create features not only functional but delightful to interact with.
• Scalability & Performance Optimization: Architect services that are both reliable and efficient at cloud scale.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this position, you should have the following qualifications:
• Minimum 3+ Years of Software Development Experience: Strong hands-on skills in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C++, C#, Java, Python).
• Full-Stack Engineering Expertise: Facility working across backend infrastructures, frontend UI, infrastructure, and algorithmic problem-solving.
• Team–Minded Approach: Strong team player who excels in a dynamic, fast-paced, and inclusive team environment.
• Leadership: Demonstrated experience taking technical ownership and leading by example.
• Continuous Learner: Real desire to learn and implement new technologies.
• Academic Background: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent in-practice experience (e.g., military technology units, high-performance teams).
Preferred Qualifications
Although not required, the following will make you stand out:
• Experience within cybersecurity, particularly in identity threat detection or similar areas of focus.
• Knowledge of contemporary cloud-native development (e.g., Azure, Kubernetes, Docker).
• Knowledge of identity platforms such as Azure Active Directory, Okta, or Ping Identity.
• Prior contributions to high-scale, distributed systems.
• A strong background in security protocols, detection algorithms, or SIEM/SOAR platforms.
What Makes This Role Unique?
Innovation Meets Impact
This is not your run-of-the-mill software engineering role. You‘ll be working on technologies that safeguard millions of users every day from advanced cyber threats. The choices you make will have a direct impact on the security posture of Fortune 500 organizations and government agencies.
Cutting-Edge Stack & Real-World Applications
From machine learning–augmented detections to cloud–scale microservices, this team develops software that solves actual security incidents using modern stacks and frameworks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
You will be working with a close-knit team of highly competent engineers, researchers, and product managers who share one mission: protecting the identity layer of the internet.
About the Product: Identity and Threat Detection and Response (ITDR)
Microsoft‘s ITDR initiative emphasizes proactive, AI-based defense mechanisms for identity systems. It helps organizations to detect, respond to, and monitor threats directed at identity infrastructure, such as attacks like
• Credential theft
