Main Responsibilities of the Graduate Safety Specialist
Your job as a graduate safety specialist at Amazon will involve, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Compliance & Reporting
• Ensure that Amazon corporate safety initiatives comply with Australian federal and state safety laws.
• Assist the management in maintaining compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
• Have accurate, updated safety metrics daily, weekly, and monthly for reporting to onsite management and corporate staff.
• Assist internal and external audits for safety compliance, checks, and risk evaluations.
2. Risk Assessments & Hazard Identification
•Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to determine possible safety hazards for different job duties and activities.
•Review new equipment and working procedures to determine potential hazards and suggest preventive measures.
•Suggest proper risk mitigation actions, such as ergonomic interventions, to management.
•Identify potential workplace hazards and suggest corrective measures proactively.
3. Safety Training & Awareness
•Help develop and conduct safety training sessions for employees at all levels.
• Educate employees in safe work habits, emergency response, and risk reduction techniques.
• Foster Amazon‘s safety-first culture by connecting with employees and engaging them in proactive safety programs.
4. Emergency Response & Incident Investigation
• Take part in emergency preparedness programs and response planning.
• Develop incident investigations to establish root cause and actionable preventive measures.
• Offer recommendations for corrective and preventive steps to enhance workplace safety and minimize future occurrences.
5. Shift Flexibility & Dynamic Work Environment
•Work flexible schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
•Adjust to a high-paced operational environment with changing challenges and priorities.
•Work with cross-functional groups to promote ongoing safety improvements.
Basic Qualifications
To qualify for the Graduate Safety Specialist position at Amazon, you will need to meet the below minimum requirements:
•Completed a tertiary qualification (bachelor or higher degree) in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) within the previous 24 months.
• Strong interest in workplace safety and a desire to impact.
Preferred Qualifications
Amazon prefers candidates with the following additional qualifications and skills:
• Interest in or prior experience in a safety-related position (work experience, internship, or volunteer experience in workplace safety is a plus).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in communicating safety-related information to all levels of the organization.
•Capacity to excel in a dynamic, constantly changing environment with a proactive and solution-focused attitude.
•Analytical capabilities with proven capability to recognize problems and apply pragmatic solutions.
•Experience with risk assessments, safety audits, or incident investigations is preferable but not essential.
