IBM Server IO Logic Design Engineer – Lead | High-Speed Hardware Innovation
Introduction:
The Server IO Logic Design group plays a very significant part in the creation of high-performance IBM hardware. Our group is dedicated to designing and implementing both proprietary and industry-standard interfaces for IBM‘s POWER systems and Z Mainframe processors. With data rates from 2.5 Gbps to 64 Gbps or more, our work involves advanced technologies that induce innovation and performance in the IT sector.
As a Server IO Logic Design Engineer, you will be tasked with documenting product feature requirements into detailed design documents, such as functional specifications and high-level design documents. Your work involves creating logic components for IBM hardware, ranging from server systems to storage systems to networking systems. You will also conduct unit testing and debugging of components and integrate them into the overall system architecture.
In this position, you will also collaborate with verification teams, physical design teams, and firmware developers to detect and fix defects throughout the development cycle. You will support the post-silicon validation team in characterizing and optimizing the final hardware to meet IBM‘s high-quality standards. Role and Responsibilities:
As a Server IO Logic Design Engineer – Lead, your major responsibilities are:
Working with cross-functional teams to establish functional requirements and create efficient design solutions.
Creating logic elements with VHDL/Verilog and microcontroller code in C for IBM hardware.
Block-level testing and debugging through waveform analysis to validate functionality prior to system integration.
Detection and repair of defects in the design during the verification stage.
Helping the physical design team to optimize the design within timing, power, and area constraints.
Helping the lab team with hardware component characterization during bring-up.
Working with the firmware team for debug and integration of hardware and software units.

Technical Skills:
Experience in high-speed IO design in analog mixed-signal spaces.
Hands-on experience with VHDL, Verilog, and C programming languages.
Adequate debugging skills working with waveform analysis tools.
Experience with logic design and simulation-based testing.
Knowledge of Git version control, Linux OS, and KornShell & BASH scripting.
Expertise in server, storage, and network system component design.

Required Education: Bachelor‘s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an allied field.
Preferred Education: Master‘s degree in Electrical Engineering, VLSI, or an allied area.
